
I am pleased to announce that my work “Preludes” for clarinet quartet has received an honorable mention in the 11th Sun River Prize International Composition Competition that took place just this month in Chengdu, China! The work was selected from 62 entries from students in regions such as China, Hong Kong, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Taiwan, Germany, Italy, Korea, Belarus, Canada and the United States. The jury was chaired by renowned composer Chen Yi and organized by the Sichuan Conservatory of Music.
The work was commissioned for my friend Jack Liang’s clarinet Master’s recital in Arizona, and he has made a superb recording of it from his Masters’ recital. As a result of this recognition in the competition, the work will be performed by faculty and students at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music this December at a winner’s concert.
