Program Notes

When thinking of what would work well in a reading session situation with the large forces of the NYOC, I decided to write something that would challenge the string section with something fast. The piece is set in two parts: the first, a twisting scherzo for the strings and the second, a soaring waltz melody that is assaulted by the forces the orchestra. In this, I attempted to conjure an atmosphere of unease and tension that would build up throughout the piece and be released at the very end.
