Program Notes

The piece was written for the L’Orchestre de la Francophonie and their creative workshop over the course of two weeks in early June 2018.  Due to the short time frame, I decided to approach the piece as a kind of compositional study for myself in orchestral color and changes.  The title “Dots and Lines” alludes to my pointillistic approach to orchestration, using each instrument to highlight one or two notes and eliding their entrances to create a larger tapestry where each note was created using a different color, thus the tribute to pointillism in visual art.  The piece moves along at a fast tempo, and the changes between instruments are meant to create a vibrant blur of vivid colors and textures.
