Program Notes
“O Christmas Time” is a lyrical composition based on three religious texts adapted by the composer for SATB chorus and piano.
The opening lines of the composition set the tone for a celebration of joy and peace. The birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is the central theme of Christmas, and this piece invites us to contemplate the significance of His arrival on Earth. As we move through the composition, we are reminded of the longing that pervades the holiday season. It’s a time for introspection, a time when we seek the true light that shines in the darkness, both in our hearts and in the world. The final verses of the piece convey a message of hope and blessing for those who seek the true meaning of Christmas and ends with a message of peace.

O Christmas time,
a time full of joy,
a time for peace,
for He has given His Prince of Peace,
for our sake.
O Christmas time,
a time full of longing,
a time to seek,
true light in the darkness,
true light on the earth.
Those who seek Him,
shall find true blessing,
and they who draw near,
Shall be blessed,
for evermore.
