Written according to the specifications for the visuals of “Moonlight Blade” for the 2nd Shanghai International Digital Music Festival, this 5-minute orchestral work of the same name seeks to evoke the beauty and majesty of the mountains and lakes that are stunningly recreated in the video game. Divided into approximately three sections, the first section (0:00 – 1:33) captures the towering mountains of 张家界 with soaring string and brass motifs supported by percussion and woodwinds. The second section (1:33 – 2:50) is quieter in contrast and evokes the scenes of quiet villages and abandoned ruins that were part of the video presentation. The final section brings back the theme from the mountains in a finale and ends with a short flute solo that evokes scenes from the past.
