Program Notes
CoVie 8 (2020) is a piece for eight multi-tracked cellos that rises to the theme of the Do-Mi-Si-La contest. While home has become our primary place of refuge during the COVID crisis, it is also a place where we are held in confinement. CoVie 8 explores the sadness that comes from the loss of freedom, but also the gratitude for home, a place of shelter and comfort. Noemie Raymond-Friset plays the eight cello parts that were inspired by the Do-Mi-Si-La theme set out in the competition.
The title CoVie 8 is a play on the name of the virus, but also references our current state of cohabitation, with ourselves or with our close family and alludes to the number of players in the video.
The work was commissioned by cellist Noemie Raymond-Friset and the video component created by Boran Zaza.
