June 2024 – This has been a busy (and hot!) summer month spent on the East coast of Canada, first at the Lunenburg Composition Academy and then for a short stint in Washington D.C. for the world premiere of “Do you see me?” by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington D.C.
Going to the Kennedy Center is always a thrill, and it was an honor to be part of the GM Chorus’ expansive “Portraits” project, pairing the works of 9 visual artists, 9 composer, and 9 choreographers to create a compelling new oratorio celebrating diversity, pride, and inclusion. My piece was inspired by visual artist Linda Lowery’s portrait titled “See Me” (below) and was subsequently choreographed by Michael Bobbitt.
The chorus will reprise my composition and their “Portraits” project at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis on July 13, 2024. A recording of the work will be available soon. Last but not least, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts for their generous support in allowing me to travel to Washington D.C. for the world premiere!
