SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers

The jury of the 2019 SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers awarded my piece “And the Ocean was Gone” the first prize in the Godfrey Ridout Category! The piece was composed for the amazing Lunenberg Academy of Music Performance and performed by a cast of venerable musicians which includes members of Symphony Nova Scotia and flautist Bob Aitken. Congratulations to my many colleagues who were also granted this honor!

Awarded Faculty of Music Graduating Award and John Weinzweig Graduate Scholarship, University of Toronto

Feeling honored and grateful to be the recipient of two significant awards from the Faculty of Music as I graduate with my D.M.A in composition! I was the runner up for the Faculty of Music Graduating Award and the winner of the John Weinzweig Graduate Scholarship, generously endowed by Dr. John Lawson and the Weinzweig family to support graduating students. 15th Thailand International Composition Festival Competition Finalist

Extremely honored to be selected to be one of six finalists from 128 entries for the Thailand International Composition Festival held in August 2019! The Grey Matter Ensemble will give the Asian premiere of Metropolis on August 9th in Bangkok, Thailand. Looking forward to meeting new friends and composers in Thailand!

Doctor of Music Arts Degree Requirements Complete

Appointed Emerging Composer-in-Residence at Lunenberg Academy of Music Performance

I will be returning to the beautiful Lunenberg Academy of Music between June 5-19 to serve as the emerging composer-in-residence at their annual composition academy! 12 young composers will work alongside composers Robert Aitken, Dinuk Wijertane, Zygmunt Krauze, and Andrew Staniland in a 2-week intensive course.

Ontario Arts Council Commissioned work for the Interro String Quartet

I have just completed a new piece for the Interro String Quartet, titled “Sprout”. The piece is inspired by several pictures of nature and explores the use of natural harmonics to represent the process of growth. Looking forward to seeing the piece on tour in Ontario by the ISQ in their 2019/2020 season!

Winner of the Lyra Society’s Harp Composition Competition

I am excited to announce that the Lyra Society has chosen my work “Release” as the winner of their 2019 Composition Competition! The piece was selected by Jury members Dr. David Ludwig (Professor of Music, Curtis Institute), Elizabeth Hainen (Principal harp, Philadelphia Orchestra) and composer Michael Djupstrom for this award. The piece will see its premiere on April 6 by harpist Elizabeth Clark White.

Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra programs “Tempest” in Chamber Series

The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players give the Canadian premiere of my work “Tempest”, a one-movement string quartet written in 2013. The piece will be accompanied by Beethoven’s Quartet Op.18 No.1, Elizabeth Raum’s “King Lear Fantasy”, and Bruan Burman’s “A Winter’s Tale”.

University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra Commissions new work for Centennial Celebrations

I will be writing a new work for the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and conductor Uri Mayer in celebration of the Faculty of Music’s 100th anniversary. Looking forward to hearing the new piece on April 6, 2019!

Winner of the Vancouver Bach Choir Composition Competition

My work “Glorify!” was selected as the winner of the Vancouver Bach Choir’s 2018 Composition Competition! The piece will see its Canadian Premiere at the Orpheum Theatre at the Vancouver Bach Choir’s Christmas Concert, featuring a Touch of Brass ensemble and organist Edward Norman.
