Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra Premieres “Radiant Light” for Sheng and Orchestra

My commissioned piece “Radiant Light” for sheng and orchestra received a successful premiere with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra on Nov 12, at the Shanghai Symphony Hall.  The piece was commissioned by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music for their “Listening to China” project, in which emerging composers from China and around the world were invited to write pieces using traditional Chinese melodies and instruments.  Being my first time writing for the Sheng, I was very fortunate to work with soloist Hua Yifei who took my work in stride and gave an extremely committed performance with the orchestra.

It was an amazing cultural and musical experience, being able to visit Shanghai to connect with musicians and composers from China!

For more information on the piece itself, visit this page on my website.
